The saiyan warrior Natto stood at the outskirts of Planet Vegeta, surveying the sky for any sign of danger.
Planet Vegeta was a very important place to him, even though he spent most of his life fighting abroad. Regardless of such a life as a conqueror of foreign worlds, he had been born and raised on this very planet, and it was all he knew as a true home, as the place where he could enjoy some sense of comradery and belonging.
As a proud member of the Saiyan race, Natto had always been headstrong and focused. He was determined to make a name for himself and become one of the strong ones among his people. Even though he was born a mid-class warrior, and he had come to accept his position as such, he still craved power, so that he could enjoy better, more exciting battles. With that came a will to test himself, to push his own limits and break them. Conquering worlds was a very good way to achieve that; there was no pulling punches, it didn't have the comfort of training. No, the opponent there wanted to destroy you, and the only path towards triumph was to eliminate all the enemy. A true test for a true born saiyan, one most of them would never get tired of. And so, when he saw the job posting for a mission to conquer a small planet, he knew it was what he had to do, for the sake of the saiyan race, and for his own pride and satisfaction.
Natto had always been skilled in combat. Being born with a power level that classified him as a mid-class warrior allowed him to train and hone his skills before his first assignment, a privilege unknown to most low-class warriors, who were often dispatched to a random planet as an infant. Still, despite his confidence in his own skills in battle, he knew he would need some help if he was going to take on this mission. Fortunately, being a member of a squad was quite helpful for such matters; you always had your to go people to rely on. With that in mind, he reached out to two other Saiyans who were a member of his squad, one of which was his older brother Miso. Excited with the prospect of conquering yet another planet, they agreed to join him, and together, they set out on their mission, leaving on their Space Pods, scratching the void of the universe with the white trail they left behind.
The planet they were tasked to conquer was small and not widely known for its fighting ability. But something had triggered them to attack the borders of Planet Vegeta, and it was up to Natto and his companions to find out why. It was mildly concerning that people were growing bold enough to think that they could afford to provoke the saiyans; a shameful mark of the USD era, tainting the image of the saiyan race. In any case, they landed on the planetoid, which was but a couple days trip away from their home, and began their search for the enemy with their scouters.
The planet's inhabitants were few in number, and they seemed to be living peacefully. It was hard to imagine that they could pose any threat to Planet Vegeta. While Miso and his other companion were ready to just start destroying the place, Natto was curious as to what made them think attacking the saiyans was a good idea, and he dissuaded his companions from starting out with outright violence. Instead, he decided gathering information would be important in the greater scheme of things. With that decided, Natto and his companions approached the locals to try to get some information, but they were met with hostility. The inhabitants were wary of outsiders and were not willing to divulge any information, especially not to those hailing from the Saiyan Empire.
Despite some insistence from Natto, he and his companions had no choice but to use force, retaliating the attack. The three saiyans took on the inhabitants in a brutal battle, but it was over quickly. The inhabitants were not as strong as the Saiyans had anticipated, and they were defeated with ease, without even the need to rely on their Great Ape transformation. However, Natto couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the situation than meets the eye, and even though he shared his concerns with his companions, they made little of his concerns. "You are thinking too much, maggot!" said Miso with a scornful tone. "You are the one who never sees beneath the surface." Natto retorted, hmphing as he gazed away, too irritated to continue the conversation.
As they made their way back to their ship, Natto heard a faint whisper in the wind. He turned around to see a figure lurking in the shadows. It was one of the inhabitants they had defeated, and he was trying to sneak up on them. "Seems like somebody is spitting on the face of lady luck... You don't get another chance!" the saiyan remarked as he turned around to face the creature. Natto and his companions were quick to react, and they engaged in another battle. The inhabitants were skilled in the art of deception, and they tried to stab the Saiyans in the back at every turn. However, Natto and his companions were able to fend them off and emerged victorious once again; despite their tactics, the gap in power between them was just too great.
Despite the victory, Natto couldn't shake off the feeling that they were missing something. "I told you there was something off about them... We should find out what. As much as they don't seem to pose much of a threat, it won't hurt to be more inquisitive about this." he argued, and either because he made a convincing argument, or maybe because they had no energy to discuss further, they decided to go along with Natto's approach. They decided to interrogate one of few the prisoners they had taken in the previous battle, due to Natto's insistence. After a few threats, the prisoner revealed that they had been hired by a neighboring planet to attack Planet Vegeta. The neighboring planet had long been jealous of the Saiyan's strength and had hired the inhabitants of this small planet to weaken them. As the planetoid they were at was mostly devoid of the much needed resources in order for them to properly survive, they had no other choice than to accept the request.
Still, regardless of their reasoning, the revelation was not met with much empathy by the trio of saiyans. Natto and his companions were outraged. How dare these outsiders think they could take on the might of the Saiyan race! They decided to teach the neighboring planet a lesson they wouldn't forget; it was pointless to remain at the planetoid, the inhabitants here were mere pawns in a bigger game, just like Natto had suspected. With that in mind, they set out on a mission to take down the neighboring planet, with vengeance in their hearts.
The neighboring planet was larger and more advanced than the small planet they had conquered earlier, but it was close enough that it only took them a day to go from the planetoid to their new destination. The Saiyans knew they would face a much tougher challenge, but they were not deterred. They landed on the planet and began their attack.
The inhabitants of the neighboring planet were more prepared for their arrival, and they fought back with all their might. Natto and his companions engaged in a fierce battle, and the ground shook with the force of their attacks. It was a long and grueling battle, but the Saiyans refused to give up.
As they fought, Natto could feel his power growing stronger with every blow. He tapped into a reserve of strength he had never known he had. He was determined to emerge victorious and make the neighboring planet pay for their treachery. Still, due to the sheer power displayed by the locals, they required many battles to slowly push them back. The trio also relied on the power of the full moon, so that they could access their Great Ape form, further shifting the tide of battle in their favour. The locals were pushed to a corner, and eventually destroyed their own moon so that they could have a better chance against the saiyan, and while that delayed their defeat, they took too long to come to such a decisive action; most of the planet had already been overtaken by the saiyans.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the battle was won. The neighboring planet's defenses had been destroyed, and their armies had been defeated. Natto and his companions had emerged as the victors, and they had sent a clear message to anyone who dared to challenge the Saiyan race.
Natto stood on the planet, surveying the aftermath of the battle. He felt a sense of satisfaction at the destruction he had caused. But at the same time, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of guilt. The inhabitants of the neighboring planet had families, just like the Saiyans did. He wondered if he had gone too far, even though he didn't feel as bad as he did after the siege of Planet Cereal. This was not an act of conquest, but one of defence and retaliation; they had been wronged first, after all.
But as he looked up at the sky, he knew that he had done what needed to be done. The neighboring planet had attacked them first, and the Saiyans had simply defended themselves. Natto felt a sense of pride at the thought of the strength and power of his race.
As they made their way back to Planet Vegeta, Natto felt a sense of accomplishment. They had completed their mission, and they had done it with flying colors. They would be rewarded for their efforts, but for Natto, the sense of pride and accomplishment was reward enough.
Back on Planet Vegeta, Natto was praised for the success of the assignment. He had taken on a difficult mission and had emerged victorious. The other mid and low-class Saiyans present at their landing spot looked up to him with respect, for the three of them showed to their enemies that you should not mess with the Saiyan Empire, for it will come with steep consequences.
Natto knew that there would be more challenges to come. There would be other planets to conquer, and other battles to fight. But he was ready for whatever lay ahead. He was a Saiyan warrior, and he was proud of it. And as he looked up at the sky, he knew that there was nothing that could stand in his way.
